From Carl Salbach catalog, 1927: LOS ANGELES. Great white flowers of fine shape and substance, the standards faintly edged pale blue, the falls beautifully reticulated red brown at the base, the blue style arms adding a note of clear color in the center. Each noble flower stands out like a great glorified 'Fairy', on the tall, widely branched stems, to show the progress that breeding has made in the plicata group. $25.00. |
LOS ANGELES. Sister seedling of the wonderful plicata 'San Francisco. A giant in size, snowy white, with faint edgings of lavender-blue. Splendid stalks were on exhibit in the St. Paul iris show, and it was growing and blooming lustily in the Schreiner garden in that city, indicating that it is really quite hardy when once acclimated. Each $2.00; three for $4.50. Cooley's Wholesale pricelist, 1932. |
As a blue and white plicata which has a white effect in the garden, I would get Los ANGELES (4). Although it is a Californian, it has bloomed almost every year for me and is as good as most of the new varieties in its color class. Wills, Jesse, (1943). Older Iris I Would Buy Again, American Iris Society Bulletin, 89 (April 1943), 13. |
