'Love Is' (Steve Varner, R. 1972). Seedling# 851. TB, 35" (89 cm), Early midseason bloom. Standards flesh pink; falls rose-lilac, deeper at edge; pale pink beard. Seedling# 618: ('Sleeping Princess' x ('Whole Cloth' x 'Lavendula')) X seedling# 5247: 'Carillon Belles' sibling. Illini Iris 1973. Honorable Mention 1974; Favorite Guest 1974; Favorite Guest 1976.

From AIS Bulletin #208 January 1973 Introducing LOVE IS. #851, EM, 35", TB. (618 X 5247, a sib. to Carillon Belles). Four branches, nine buds. Uniquely distinctive and beautiful. Conical flesh pink standards, slightly ruffled, wide, rose-lilac falls, deeper at edges, very light pink beard. HC '72. Net $25. Illini Iris.
"Tan standards with washed violet falls in a 20 flowered clump of LOVE IS by Varner surely gathered in some votes to give it a place in the top six for the Cook Douglas Cup." [Wadekamper, J. (1974).
