From Quality Gardens catalog 1931: MME SEROUGE (Madam Su-rooj') (Cayeux 1929) M. 42" F. A very beautiful new variety, a seedling of the famous Black Knight, but with none of its failings. It is a rampant grower and a free bloomer. The flowers are of great size. S. light violet, F. spreading and well rounded of a warm tone of intense blackish red purple, with a pale Bishop’s violet edge. The whole flower seems lighted with a dark silvery sheen. This was given a certificate of merit by the French Iris Commission as one of the best Iris of last year. C.M.SN.H.F. 1930. $25.00. |
