Bunyards 1930 catalog notes "Mebsuta . The colouring of this Iris is unusual on account of the curious and pleasing tone of slate-grey which underlies. Standards pink shot grey. Falls slate purple, reticulated yellow at throat, fine gold beard, flowers very large, bourne on robust, well branched stems. 3½-ft...June...each 21/-"
