| From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, 1947: MEXIA (Whiting-Crow) No. 426 (MATULA X CHINA MAID) E. M. 34 inches. Mrs. E. L. Crow of Mexia, Texas, named this one. It is deep copper rose, similar to THREE OAKS, and has been sold under number to hundreds of visitors. Mrs. Ray also lists. $1.00.
| Mexia is listed for sale in Mrs. Whiting's catalog for 1947 in a section she calls "1947 Personality Parade". This is a group of irises that she had been selling under number to garden visitors. "So many people have urged us to name them, even suggested names for them. . ."
