From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1938: "We have never seen an iris with such smooth, soft, even tones of mauve-blue, so different from all blues and lavenders now available. For two seasons this very lovely seedling, actually startling in size, has drawn the attention of Chicago iris critics, and last year it was awarded the American Iris Society honor of "Highly Commended". This is the greatest honor possible for an unintroduced seedling. In color similar to the old and beautiful 'Mlle. Schwartz', but Modiste is a flower of broad hafts, full rounded shape, and idea growing habits. Stems are heavy, well branched, and around forty inches tall. Each $10.00." |
From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1942: MODISTE (D. Hall 1938) E. M. A smooth silky lavender mauve of large size, splendid branching, and fine bloommg habit. The soft misty coloring is similar to the lovely old favorite Mlle. Schwartz. Per. R. 87 1940. 38 in. $1.00 |
