From C. H. Hall catalog, 1925: MONTOUR (1925.) - S. pinkish cinnamon flushed with magenta; F. velvety burnt lake. An exquisite effect in pink and brown set with a dense orange beard. 30". $5.00 each. Delivery after July 1, 1925. |
MONTOUR. This little gem was growing in Kellogg's famous garden (Over-the-Garden-Wall) in a group including Dauntless, and it struck me at first sight as an abridged edition of the giant red. The colors are more subdued, a medley of deep pink and brown, set with a bright orange beard. Fine for the front of a planting where taller sorts are used in the background. Montour is perfect in every detail, in a class entirely apart from most irises of dwarf stature. Each $1.00; three for $2.25; ten, $5.00 [Cooley's Wholesale pricelist, 1932] |
