From Sass catalog, 1949: NEW ERA (45-85) (Sass Brothers, 1949)-S. White. F. Olive yellow. Medium sized blooms on 36-inch stems. $15.00
"Our next stop was the Maple Road Gardens near Omaha, Nebraska. When we arrived we found that the Sass Brothers had made a gold strike! Not ore but in iris. Keeping up with the current fashion of gold-on white they have originated a charming iris with white standards and green-gold falls, entirely different from any other iris we have ever seen. We saw it labeled as No. 45-85, but in a recent letter, Mr. Sass informed us that this iris will be introduced as New Era. Watch for it - it's a darling!" Banyard, Prof. and Mrs. Frank H. Kansas (1948). Vacation in Iris Land, The Bulletin of the American Iris Society 112 (April 1949): 25.
NEW ERA (45-85) (Sass, H. E., 1949)-S. White. F. Olive yellow. Medium sized blooms on 36-inch stems... $3.00 [Maple Road Iris Price List, 1952]
"New Era is undoubtedly a step forward. How these Sasses do step out at the head of the parade! But it is an iris you would buy for breeding, not garden decoration. It is like the flamingo pinks—it's a step in the right direction and will undoubtedly lead to some wonderful things." Reynolds, Mrs. Leo F., Tennessee (1949).
