From Milliken Gardens catalog, 1940: NOEL (C. G. White). Pure in color and near perfect in every respect is this handsome white iris. It is a warm white, being faintly suffused with cream and lighted in the center with a bright golden beard. The texture is like satin and the heavy, firm substance enables the Flowers to withstand the most severe weather. Noel is a tall iris with strong, well-branched stems and heavy luxuriant foliage. Those who admire the perfection of Easter Morn will find here an iris similar in shape of Flower and habit of growth, but a little more toward the cream than the pure white. $10.00 |
From Lena M. Lothrop, "Poor Season in Southern California", A.I.S. Bulletin 78 (Jul. 1940): 14. NOEL (White) has been growing in the Milliken garden several seasons, but it has not been introduced because of the number of white iris. It is a beautiful iris and differs from other whites in texture. Most light iris have an open, crystalized surface, but this one has a slick surface--not quite like fine kid nor yet quite like satin but perhaps half way between. Notice its beautiful name. |
