From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, 1940: NYLON (Whiting 1940) M. L. 34 in. A smoothly blended self of warm rich coloringas of rosy anther. There is a color sample in the Dictionary of Color called caramel that comes very close. We were trying to find a name for it when I received a gift of a lovely pair of nylon stockings and at once I realized they were the same shade of lovely rosy tan or brown as this iris. so with the permission of the duPonts we registered the name. Not only the color but the sheer fine texture was similar--strength and endurance with the effect of gossamer haze. The flowers are of medium large size, full. ruffled form and delightful freshness. The stalk is not very tall, but well branched and perfectly proportioned to the flowers. The plants bloom freely and increase well. $15.00.
From Schreiner's catalog, 1944: A subdued new blend, an intermingling of coral, soft buff-tan with light lavender hints in the background, giving a sort of filmy haze to the flower. Average height (34"), branched stalks.

From Tell's Iris List, 1951: Large nylon-tan. Possibly has been overlooked as a superb parent. I think it is a better breeder for quality than 'Prairie Sunset'. Produces shell pinks when bred to them.
