From Sass catalog, 1937: OMAHA (H. P. Sass, 1929)- Approaching a clear red in tone of beautiful clarity. S. dark vinaceous; F. vinaceous purple. Blooms large. Height 30 inches. Makes a fine red mass in the garden as it is a very vigorous grower and free bloomer. 25c
OMAHA. A beautiful coral-red self, with orange beard, producing a very striking contrast. Blooms are extra large and of lovely rounded form. The color effect is deep and brilliant pink, rather than red, and the petals have a glistening and fragile appearance, although on the contrary they stand up perfectly. A considerable novelty in color, and one of Sass's finest. Height about 30 inches. Each $1.00; three for $2.25; ten for $6.00 [Cooley's Wholesale price list, 1932]

Speaking of non-flowerers reminds me of the adventures of a plant of OMAHA which I bought many years ago. It flowered only once in four years with me, so I gave it to a friend who had seen a flower spike and whom I had warned about its habits. He waited for a further three years—not a sign of a bloom—so he dug it up and handed it over the garden wall to his neighbor and forgot all about it until two years later when he saw a patch of bright brick red which intrigued him greatly. On asking his neighbor what it was, he was told that it was OMAHA, and he promptly begged a bit back. This has not flowered since! [Cave, N. Leslie (1943). Comments from England. American Iris Society Bulletin, 88(January 1943), 53.]
