| From Tell’s Iris Garden catalog, 1955: ORCHID QUEEN (W. Schortman). E-M. (Snow Flurry) x (Inspiration x Balmung.) Here is a novelty in orchid and cream. The ground color is cream and the falls are heavily patterned with lines of orchid like the wings of an exotic butterfly. The very large, wide, flowers are nicely spaced on 40-inch ramrod stalks. Mr.Schortman produced a good red seedling from this iris. $20.00 |
| From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1956: ORCHID QUEEN (Schortman 1955) E. M. 40 in. Snow Flurry x (Inspiration x Balmung). This new iris is most difficult to describe. The basic color is cream, but a very faint flush of pale lilac blue tints the standards and a flush of the same color overlays the falls which also have a butterfly wing veining of deeper lilac over them, so that it appears to be a flower of a new and most unusual shade of orchid. The flowers are extra large with very broad, oval petals. Very tall with good branching, this one really stands out. 15.00. |
