PADISHAH (1937), a big yellow--not unlike my
Sahara, but not as good. [G. L. Pilkington, "Iris Notes",
A.I.S. Bulletin 74 (July 1939): 35.]
From Iris City Gardens catalog, 1940: PADISHAH: The plant grows rapidly and blooms freely. As a first year plant it had five blooming stalks, each 40 in. tall. The blooming stems are wiry and strong, always erect. Branching is excellent. The flower is large and well shaped, falls gracefully flaring. The color is amber yellow, about the same as the old variety Amber. No traces of purple have appeared in the falls, so it seems to be a true medium yellow. Beard is bright orange. Time of blooming is early mid-season. At the Nashville Iris Show of 1936 a silver cup was awarded to Padishah as the best iris developed in Nashville and not commercially introduced at that time. $3.00.
