From Maple Valley Gardens catalog, 1954: PEPPERPOT, No. 5030 (TECHNICOLOR X LODESTONE). Late, 25 inches, Pepper red (Dictionary of Color), with lacquered finish. There is no plate in the Wilson color chart to match it, but oxblood red heavily infused with brick red gives an idea of its intensity. Neither large nor tall, it is still first choice of many visitors. H. C. 1951. $15.00. |
From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1951: PEPPERPOT (Whiting 1954) M. 25 to 30 in.(Technicolor x Lodestone). This is probably the brightest of the Whiting introductions. Pepper red by the dictionary of color, it always reminds us of the rose known as Austrian Copper. A brilliant copper red. It is neither large nor tall, but is one of the brightest iris we have seen. It should be a superb parent for color and we are looking forward to a number of seedlings from it this season as we crossed it on a number of our own reds such as Manana, Defiance, Great Day, Moulin Rouge, etc. H. C. 1951. 10.00. |
