RAJAH BROOKE (Norton) -A fine rich variegata with topaz-yellow standards and deep red falls, solid coloring into the hafts. We need more clean and smooth iris such as this in all shades. [Clifford W. Benson (Mo.), “Varietal Comments,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 110 (July 1948): 95.] |
RAJAH BROOKE (Norton, 1945) Each $1.00; 3 for $2.50. Rich topaz-yellow standards shot with bronze; the falls deep pigeon blood-red. Haft is solidly colored, clear into the throat, giving the flower an extra rich effect. Not brilliant and garish. Rajah Brooke is an iris in luxurious, subdued hues remindful of an Oriental rug. HM AIS, 1946. In color on page 24. [Cooley's Iris catalog 1952, p. 37]. |
From Iris Test Garden Catalog, 1955: RAJAH BROOKE. (Norton). Variegata fanciers will be surprised when they see this one. It's different. It's a honey. Standards topaz in color; falls pigeon blood red, with wide border of topaz on falls. Large burnished gold beard. Large flower, well branched. Thirty-eight in. tall. H.M., 1946. 60c. |
