References:

From Carl Salbach catalog 1944: RANGER (Kleinsorge 1943). Large vigorous growing red toned iris produced on tall well branched stems. Standards are claret red. The semi-flaring falls are of heavy substance and are a shade of mahogany red. Blooms carried well above the foliage. Good grower and free bloomer. 36". Late.
From Cooley's 1956 catalog: "Dark but very bright, almost true crimson-red. A decided self, with long, cone-shaped, closed standards and wide falls of glossy velvet. Bronze-orange beard on a brownish toned haft, with very little venation. One of the last to bloom."

RANGER (Kleinsorge, 1943) - This has about the same depth of color as ‘Red Valor’ and ‘Redward’ but has less luster. Light venation on white ground on haft; beard not prominent; flowers somewhat bunched. This is a good seed parent but produced no pollen in my garden. [Elis Nelson, "Varietal Notes on Red Irises,", The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 110 (July 1948): 93.]
