1970, Nelson

'Rare Wine' (Jeannette Nelson, R. 1969). Seedling# 66-2-1. TB, 38" (97 cm). Early to midseason bloom. Standards orchid-purple (Wilson 31/2); falls orchid-purple (31/1) with wide border of 31/2; orange beard. Seedling# 62-84-1 ('Cashmere' x 'Call Me Madam') X 'Wine And Roses'. Cooley's Gardens 1970.

RARE WINE (J. Nelson, '70) ML. 34" Each $20.00. Here is something of stunning proportions– width of petals, overall stature–so much so that visitors to the Nelson garden could scarcely believe their eyes. A Wine and Roses combination, with rose-lavender standards and wine-red falls bordered same color as the standards. There is a median line down the center of each fall. A giant in Irisdom!
