From Bonnewitz catalog, 1927: RED RIDING HOOD (Koehler). S. rose-violet; F. bright pansy-violet. One of the best approaches toward red. Midseason; profuse bloomer, very, very good in the mass and probably better even than Powhatan for a border planting. Height, 27 to 30 inches. $0.50.
1927 catalog of A.E. Wohlert (Firm) gives: "Red Ridinghood (Koehler 1922) — The nearest approach to red in the Iris family, and for that reason it has a place in the Iris garden that no other variety can fill. S. attractive reddish-lavender. F. purplish solferinored, with mottlings of brown near the base. The backs of the petals are pinkish-lavender. Greatly admired wherever seen. 50 cents each."
