From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1942: 'Red Valor' (Nicholls 1939) M. A magnificent deep garnet red iris with the strongest substance and weather resistance of any iris that I have seen. The arched standards have a strong midrib and are firmly held. The falls are broad and flaring. A rich brown beard adds to the depth of color of this outstanding iris. Low branching. Gold Medal, Rome, Italy 1940. H.M., A.I.S. 1940. Per. R.[Performance Rating] 89 in 1941. 36 in. $7.50. |
AIS Bulletin #98(Aug 1945): Perhaps the two best all-round ones are Ranger and Red Valor. Both have tall stalks with good branching and nice big flowers of excellent substance. Ranger, however, is not so red as some of the others and the standards of Red Valor tend to open. https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/56238490 |
