2006, Schreiner

'Rhinelander' (Schreiners, R. 2006). Seedling# KK 573-B. TB, 35" (89 cm). Late midseason bloom. Lavender (RHS 90D) self; beards yellow in throat, lavender at end; ruffled. 'New Renaissance' X 'Good Looking'. Schreiner 2006. Honorable Mention 2008, Award of Merit 2010.

Hardiness Zones 4-8 for most varieties, Some cultivars tolerate colder, others tolerate warmer zones (please comment in comment box with your location if this cultivar grows well in zone 3, 4, 9, or 10.)
Exposure Prefers full sun for optimal performance, may still bloom in half-day shade
Water: Prefers well drained good garden soil, Tolerant of dry conditions in established plants, Intolerant of swampy conditions.

  • Opens toward the warm end of the lavender spectrum, finishes silvery and cooler. Great substance. Blooming in late May in Southern California. -- ReneeFraser - 28 May 2012
  • TB 'Rhinelander' bloomed at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately June 2-14, in 2017. I didn't see any purple based foliage at the base of the leaves, but 'Rhinelander' did have some purple coloring on its spathes. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 24 Sep 2017
