1975, Roach

'Royal Romance' (Lura Roach, R. 1975). Seedling# 69-64B. TB, 37" (94 cm), Midseason bloom. Royal purple (HCC 834) self; ruffled with touch of lace at lower edge of Falls; campanula violet beard. Seedling# 67-65: ((('Tabu' x 'La Negra Flor') x 'Black Swan') x (('Mary McClellan' x 'Before Dawn') x ('Midnight Waltz' x ('Esquire' x 'Father Rigney')))) X 'Grand Alliance'. Riverbank Gardens 1975.

ROYAL ROMANCE is just another too-big purple, without much shine and rather poor substance on a short stalk. I wonder if it just doesn't like where I'm growing it, as other written reports about it are favorable.
