From AIS Bulletin #149, April 1958. ROYAL RUBY-(Red Hussar X Savage) No. 207813. This is a rich medium to dark red self; oxblood red according to R.H.S. charts. I have seen many of the new reds, but believe this is nearer to being a true red than any other. It has neither the copper influence of Red Hussar nor the bluish red of Savage. The flowers are very large with flaring falls, which are beautifully waved at the edges with closed standards. Hafts are very wide being 3" across and without markings. Stalks average 36" and are thick and strong at the base with three branches perfectly spaced. Judges who have seen it speak of it as an outstanding iris. A few for sale at $35.00.

A superb Winter Re-Bioomer-in fact, this may well be the best red in commerce, and as such will be sought even in cold climates, where its spring bloom may surpass all competing Tall Bearded reds. A strong contender for the truest red of all--a very brilliant Oxblood red that has neither the copper influence of some, nor the purplish tint of many others.
