From AIS Bulletin #121, April 1951. Introducing Royal Sovereign--(Stevens 1951) ML 38 in. Entirely distinct from all other yellows, this iris is a true self-colored, much the same as a California poppy. The falls are rich plush-velvet, rigidly held. The standards are taffeta textured. Does not fade or bleach. The growth is vigorous, increase rapid. $15.00. Schreiner. |
From Iris Test Garden Catalog, 1955: ROYAL SOVEREIGN. (Stevens, 1951). Here is a new intense yellow iris that we believe will become very popular. Larger and deeper in color than Ola Kala. The color might best be described as that of the lustrous light golden orange of the California Poppy. The falls in texture are of plush-like velvet and taffeta textured standards. The blooms are large and beautifully formed. Does not fade in the hottest sun and is a vigorous grower. 38 in. Medium late. $4.50. |
