From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing SAIL ON (Marsh '72). 69-70. TB. 34". M. (Orchid Dancer X Distant Hills). Later bloom on the largest increase, giving long season of bloom. Large violet-blue self flowers with closed standards and semiflaring falls. Both standards and falls are very ruffled, with an unusual crepe like finish over all. The inner two thirds of the beard is tangerine, the outer third pale blue. The well-branched stalk carries ten flowers well spaced. The stalk and plant are very strong and rugged, with clean blue-green foliage. It is a good increaser and is fertile both ways. This is a step toward a blue iris with a red beard. HC '70. $25.00. Marsh, Wild. |
