2005, Johnson

'Saturn' (Thomas Johnson, R. 2005). Seedling T207A. TB, 34" (86 cm), Midseason bloom. Standards medium black cherry, small area of deeper dotting at base; style arms orange buff on sides, medium black cherry at crest and down center; falls deep black cherry to black; beards deep russet-burnt orange; heavily ruffled; slight fragrance. 'Naples' X 'Romantic Evening'. Mid-America 2005. Honorable Mention 2007, Award of Merit 2010.

From Mid-America Garden catalog, 2005: SATURN - TB, 34" (86 cm), Midseason. The dark, rich, smooth colors of Saturn will put you right into orbit. Ruffled standards are deep beetroot. Broad, ruffled falls are velvety, totally smooth darkest black-cherry with a slightly lighter halo. Burnt orange beards add pizzazz to this dark ensemble. Show stalks with 3 branches and 9-11 buds are provided by healthy, strong growing plants. The next trip will be blacks with vivid red beards. Sdlg. T207A: Naples X Romantic Evening. $45.00.
