'Schortman's Garnet Ruffles' (William B. Schortman, R. 1980). Seedling# 76-16. TB, 28" (72 cm), Midseason bloom. Heavily ruffled dark red; brown beard. Inv. several generations of 'Seeing Red' X 'Apollo Red'. Gibson 1981. Honorable Mention 1985.

From Cooley's Gardens 1992 catalog: SCHORTMAN'S GARNET RUFFLES (Schortman, '81) M. 28" $12.00 We are proud to present a royal addition to our family. Very rich looking, heavily ruffled dark red self. Brown beard. If you like ruffles and you favor reds, be sure to treat yourself to this special favorite of ours. Very short so plant it at the front of your iris bed. HM '85. Pictured on page 11.

  • TB 'Schortman's Garnet Ruffles' bloomed at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately May 30 - June 9, in 2017. This variety did not show any purple based foliage at the base of the leaves, but did have purple coloring on its spathes. -- HollyJohnson2017 -04-01 - 30 Sep 2017
