'Shanunga Purple' (Mrs. Walter (Mabel Carey) Tobie,-Tobie, R. 1950). TB, 40" (102 cm), Midseason bloom. Color Class-VRD1, Dark red-violet self. ('Down East' x 'Smolder') x ('Sable' x 'Down East'). Fairmount 1953.

From Fleur de Lis Gardens catalog 1956: SHANUNGA PURPLE (Tobie 1953) M. 40 in. ((Down East x Smolder) x (Sable x Down East)). A very large flower of deep maroon with velvety overlay of dark purple black. The beard is dark and the flowers are quite clean. Imposing. 5.00.
