■(TB) 'Snow Velvet'
1942, Sass
'Snow Velvet' (
Hans Peter Sass, R. 1941) TB. Midseason late bloom. Color Class-WW.
'Claribel' x
'Tiffany'.
IMPOSTER!!!: The photos of this iris are deemed incorrect according to the Historic Iris Preservation Society(HIPS). Further research needs to be done to clarify this. It was said that the real Snow Velvet has yellow at the hafts and is a pure white (WW)...there should not be any lavender shading on the falls. One of the sources of this iris came from the Rebert Collection in Westminster, MD and is being passed around as 'Snow Velvet'. David Potembski, HIPS 03/19/2024.

Snow Velvet I cannot praise too highly. It is one of the recessive whites derived from the plicata line. It is a white iris with yellow lllfusion done in a particularly smooth manner. It has extremely heavy substance and holds up well under adverse conditions. Galyon, F. (1952). “Dark horses” of irisdom. Bulletin of the American Iris Society, 126, 25. |
From Sass catalog, 1948: SNOW VELVET (H. P. Sass, 1942)- A white of very heavy substance. Flowers are large and stay in good condition on hot days when nearly all others have wilted. The stems are 40 inches with rather short branching. $2.50 |
