From Sass catalog, 1948: SOLID MAHOGANY (Jacob Sass, 1944)- A bronzy red-purple self. S. Victoria Lake. F. Velvety Burnt Lake. Large flower, 36-inch stem. $7.50
SOLID MAHOGANY (J. Sass)-A beautifully formed deep new red that has no haft markings to speak of. Quite smooth, indeed. Certainly an iris worth having. [Clifford W. Benson (Mo.), “Varietal Comments,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 110 (July 1948): 96.]
