From Milliken Iris Gardens catalog, 1940: SPANISH CAVALIER (Milliken) Gay Spanish colors of golden bronze for the standards, rich velvety wine red for the falls, and a bright orange for the beard make this striking new iris a standout in the garden. A strong 4-foot stem carries the bold handsome flowers on well-spaced branches. The flowers themselves have the ever-popular semi-flaring shape and because of their unusual size, instantly catch the eye from a distance. Midseason blooming period and perfect hardiness. $7.50.
