Awaiting original catalog description
From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1921: 'Sweet Lavender'. (Bliss 1919.) S. French-grey-lavender; F. rosy lavender. Flower of medium size but perfect form. An entirely distinct new color. One of the finest of Bliss's seedlings. 39 inches.

From Indian Spring Farms catalog, 1927: SWEET LAVENDER (Bliss 1919) 8.5. S. pale lavender; F. horizontal, very broad and widely expanded, deep rose-lavender, the general effect being a lovely shade of rosy mauve. One of the finest and most distinct Irises. 36 inches. $1.50 each.
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1927: SWEET LAVENDER (Bliss). S. splendid pale lavender; F. broad, horizontal and a deeper rose- lavender than S. Good substance in petals; midseason. Height, 30 inches. This is one of the varieties which has been in such great demand among my customers that I have had to replenish my stock from other growers. There is a peculiar charm about it which appeals strongly to some people, and which unfortunately, other Iris enthusiasts are not able to appreciate. $1.50.

Gardeners’ Chronicle (1919), Third Series, 65(1694).
Sweet Lavender has standards of pale heliotrope colour and broad, reddish purple falls. The colouring is quite distinct and, as the plant produced blooms in plenty and each flower is of the largest size, the effect of a bed of this variety is exceedingly fine. (Gardeners' Chronicle, 1694, p. 296).
