From Walter Marx Gardens catalog 1962: TALLCHIEF (Deforest 1956) Each 3.00. This brilliant red self with its orange beard is really a step forward in search for the true red iris. Just about the finest red iris, in our opinion. HM 1957.

  • From Mary Hess: 'What makes this one different from so many of the other reds is the tiny yellow spear at the end of the beard. It is very distinct in all my photos as well as the catalog photo but no mention is made of it being a helpful identifying mark.' -- BrewItt - 12 Jun 2023
