'Taurus' (H. Valmar Slamova by Philip Edinger, R. 1999) TB, 30" (76 cm), Late midseason bloom and re-bloom. Standards light crimson red; falls deep velvety red; beards with 1" horn. 'Joseph's Mantle' X 'Hit Parade'. Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens 1961.

Note: 1961 Check List states TAURUS (Slamova, Not registerd). Introduced '61.

From The Court Of Iris catalog, 1961: TAURUS. Named after the heavenly constellation, both for its color and horns. Standards light crimson, partially open; falls broad in bright, deep, velvety red. From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: TAURUS (Slamova '61) ++ l-35". The first horned Re-Bioomer! Somewhat variable in production of horns, but often 100% of flowers have horns about 1" in length; about half of the rhizomes have re-bloomed for us here in northern Calif. mountains quite continuously from mid Oct. until early Dec. Standards light crimson partially open; falls bright deep velvety red, quite broad, spreading. Pollen variable, often quite good. (Joseph's Mantle X (Tea Rose x Yuma)). Regularly $7.50; on 10 order $4.50; on $25 order $2.95; 3 for $8.80.
Note: Court of Iris description lists parentage of Taurus as Joseph's Mantle x Hit Parade. Rainbow catalog description lists parentage as Joseph's Mantle x (Tea Rose x Yuma). Joseph's Mantle x (Tea Rose x Yuma) is the parentage of 'Red Mantle'.
