Awaiting original catalog description |
'I. Trojana superba' does not appear in any of Farr's available catalogs until his 1920-21 issue, although its sibs 'magnifica' and 'Celestial' had been listed for several years. Also, given how it was listed, it's clear that 'superba' was a sport, like 'magnifica' rather than a cross, like 'Celestial', and thus should be considered a species. (Note: 'superba' may have first appeared in Farr's 1919-1920 catalog, which is not available in the AIS catalog library. He often listed Iris as being "new" for years after they were originally introduced.) |
From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1921: TROSUPERBA. (Probably wild.) Syn. Trojana Superba. S. soft pale blue; F. rich clear violet-purple. Large flowers. Extra fine. 30 inches. |
