From AIS Bulletin #169, April 1963. Introducing TWILIGHT SONATA (Frosted Starlight X Rehobeth). An exciting silvery medium-blue with strong violet undertones and a white beard. The petals have a novel transparent crystal edge. Well-branched; excellent form, heavy substance, with both the standards and the falls rippling with the "Frosted Starlight bubble-ruffling." A dependable bloomer. 38", M. Net $20.00. Cottage Iris Gardens.
From Bay View Gardens, 1965: TWILIGHT SONATA (Ghio :63) (Frosted Starlight X Rehobeth ). An interesting new color tone in iris: amethyat-blue. TWILIGHT SONATA is an extremely smooth self with pale yellow beard. Extremely vigorous, producing several bloomstalks in one year. Midseason and 38 inches in height. The Twilight Sonata series crossed with the Cook progenitor line produces excellent results; i.e,, MOUNT EDEN) our current introduction; MAHALO (Melodrama X Twilight Sonata) our 1966 introduction; and a very ruffled neglecta 62-185D (Mt. Eden X Twilight Sonata sib). $10.00
TWILIGHT SONATA (Ghio) began opening yesterday. I love the coloring and form. It is unusual. When first opened the standards were so tightly closed it reminded me of a rose bud, and in a strong wind they still hold that beautiful position. [Munn, Delia, Virginia Beach, VA (1965) Flight Lines, Robin’s Choice, American Iris Society Bulletin, 179(October 1965), 41.]
