From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: UNICORN (Austin '54) M-L-42". This is the original, the world's first horned Iris. Depicted in life-like true color. Represents greatest break in development of an entirely new, highly decorative Iris form that has occurred in last half century of intensive Iris breeding. Beards are raised, separated from falls, projecting as striking plumed horns. Coloring is bold, contrasting—brilliant mulberry standards, snow white falls, edged to match standards. Beard orange-yellow. Seed parent of Fringed Spoon; pollen parent of Flounced Loveliness. (JS-M-116B X 638). Regularly $3.00; on $10 order $2.20; on $25 order $1.90.
