From Glen Road Iris Garden catalog, 1921: VALKYRIE (Sturtevant) — A heavy flower, long, large, and firm textured; standards Light Drab with a shimmer of Lavender, falls a velvety Dark Maroon Purple that is almost black as the flower opens; very late flowered. 30 in. 10.00.
From Milliken Iris Gardens catalog, 1933: VALKYRIE (Sturtevant). This huge iris with its olive standards and its long drooping velvety dark purple falls is unlike any other variety grown. The conspicuous veining on the upper portion of the falls adds to its effectiveness. 4 ft. 75c. 3 for $2.00.
