'Ylem' (E. Greig Lapham, R. 1953) Seedling# A-18. TB, 36" (91 cm), Late season bloom. Red self (mascara, M & P 7-L-8); bright yellow beard; smooth haft. 'Relentless' x 'Pacemaker'. Longfield 1954.

From AIS Bulletin #132, January 1954. Introducing YLEM (Sdlg. A-18)-Something decidedly different in the red class. A real advance in color. Self. Smooth. Price-$25.00. Longfield.
From Iris Test Garden catalog, 1958: YLEM. (Lapham 1954). A real advance in true "red" color. This is a brilliant clear red self with bright yellow beards, smooth clean hafts. The standards are Mascara; the falls bright Mascara by Maerz and Paul's color chart. Medium size flowers on well branched 36-inch stems. A fine Iris in every way. $10.00.
 
From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1964: YLEM (Lapham '54) ML-36". Near true spectrum red. Glows even on a cloudy day. Color actually approaches scarlet. Unlike most reds, has constancy & purity of a self; smooth clean hafts. Standards have a satiny finish, falls velvety. Everyone will want it just for the color. Abundant pollen. Try crossing with High Barbaree, Rampage & Bang, & you may well end up with that super-red . Pollen good, seed-setting marvelous. Relentless X Pacemaker.
