'Zulu' (Joseph Becherer, R. 1954) TB, 36" (91 cm), Midseason bloom. Very deep violet ("blackish") self. 'Sporting News' x seedling.

From Quality Gardens catalog 1931: ZULU (Bliss 1925) V.L. 36". A Dominion Seedling. S. a clear, rich, steely aniline blue. F. a fine, dark velvety blue. It is a vigorous grower and is very free flowering. One of the best Dominion seedlings. Blue Velvet is a greatly glorified Zulu in size, height, color and substance. If you cannot afford Blue Velvet, we advise you to take Zulu. $2.50.
