'Autosyndetica' (Marc Simonet, 1934). Often referred to as if it were a cultivar, this is actually a grouping of cultivars that created a fertile family. Botanically this is Iris x autosyndeticaSimonet and refers to any plant having tetraploid regelia and tetraploid bearded iris as the parents or their progeny crossed to each other. The idea of this fertile family was promoted by Simonet and later Peter Werckmeister for development of a hardy, unique family of hybrids much as today's SDBs are a unique fertile family. See following entry. Simonet in C. r. Acad. Sci. 198, 1173, 1934. [fertile Pogoregelia hybrid]
