Hybridizer Darwin Maxon Andrews (1863-1938)

Rockmont Nursery, Boulder Colorado. Nurseryman, plant-collector and botanist, specializing in the plants of the Rocky Mountains. His interest in Iris began about 1920 and he produced some meritorious seedlings, among them 'Candlelight', 'Amerind', 'Boulderado'. Born in Illinois, he moved to Colorado in 1893 and died there in 1938. The nursery was carried on by his family. He raised some fine varieties of peonies and phlox but became most famous for his collecting of seed of Rocky Mountain alpines introducing many gems now well known all over the world. He recieved the honorary degree of Master of Science from the University of Colorado in 1936. (Alphabetical Iris Check List 1939)
