The AIS 1939 checklist notes the following "Bulb growers since 1611. firm established in 17 23. Grew collections of Bulboud Irises since 1723, possibly earlier. Iris hybrids have been raised by W. H. de Graaff (1876- ), Holland citizen and Jan de Graaff (1903- ), his son, (U.S. Citizen). They are large wholesalers of bulbs, Tulips, Daffodils, Irises etc. and have won innumerable awards for them. The William Herbert Medal was awarded Jan de Graaff in 1938. He established Oregon Bulb Farms at Sandy, Oregon where the largest number of new Dutch Irises are being grown and produced in this country"
