Hybridizer John Laur

Dunnville, Ontario, Canada

John Laur, who was an operator of an electric supply business, had his first tall bearded garden in Hagersville, Ontario in the 1940s. By 1958 his interests shifted towards aril breeding. When he moved to Dunnville, Ontario in 1962 the soil proved unsuitable for arils and his interests returned to tall bearded hybridizing. One of his seedlings, (115A-65), won the 1970 Canadian Iris Society Best Seedling Trophy. It was also successfully shown at the American Iris Society National Convention held in San Jose, California in 1978, but apparently it was never registered or introduced. (CIS-N v31 n3 pp5-6) (Researched by Don McQueen)

Registrations/Introductions:

Aril: 'Judean Star',

Tall Bearded: 'Violet Delight',
