Species: Born in Strasbourg, he went to Paris in 1824 and studied botany with  René-Louis Desfontaines'Acoroides' and Antoine Laurent de Jussieu (1748–1836). He became the secretary of Charles-François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776–1854).
