Victor Verdier (1803-1878)
Full name: Philippe-Victor Verdier; in 1848, he inherited a collection of peonies from his uncle, M. Jacques, gardener to King Louis Philippe. He established his nursery Verdier in 1848 and also bred irises. Important breeder of Roses, Peonies, Irises, and Gladioli. Was vice-president of the National Horitcultural Society. His younger son Charles, who had already been in the business, succeeded him in the nursery in 1866. Verdier became Verdier & fils. In 1902, the firm of Vilmorin-Andrieu inherited Verdier's iris, and presumably peonies too.
Eugène Verdier (1827-1902)
Full name: Louis-Eugène-Jules Verdier; elder son of Victor, he set up his own business and bred roses, peonies, gladiolus and other flowers.
Charles Verdier (1821-1893)
Full name: Charles-Félix Verdier; Eugène's brother. See above.
