Lompoc, Sioux City, Iowa, USA/Lompoc, California, USA

From those of us who knew him, there is so very much that could be written about "Bob" Young, but many of us think of him as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Irises. From the time he became interested in the irises he saw in George Dubes' garden, he was a fervent promoter of this flower. He and George later went into partnership in the Soo-Preme Gardens, and this acerage soon became the mecca of iris lovers of Nebraska and Iowa. There are many of us who remember with pleasure the personally conducted tours through these gardens, He served as an energetic RVP of Region 21.

On retirement from the Sioux City postoffice, he moved to Lompoc, California, and began to build a name for irises in this area of annuals. He soon became an active part in the affairs of the west coast states, and his travels in behalf of our flower were extensive. "Bob" passed away quickly, in March, while working in his iris garden.
