Volunteer Opportunities

The American Iris Society has many opportunities for volunteers to make a difference. Please add your requests below and remove them when finished.

Social Media Volunteers Needed - February 2017

Coping with Social Media Demand

"Last year, brands were asked nearly 22 million questions on Facebook and Twitter combined. Audiences want to interact with brands, but how are they coping with such a large demand?"

We at The American Iris Society have quite a presence on social media, but still need help dealing with day to day interaction with an ever greater online audience. Are you able to help? If you have experience with social media and are able to volunteer some of your time please contact Andi Rivarola / AIS Social Media Manager at andinsky@gmail.com.

AIS 100th Anniversary

Do you love to read old AIS Bulletins? Many of us do. They're full of history, ideas, wonderful varietal comments, interesting iris people, science - everything about irises. They're an incomparable source of information about the history of the AIS. Work is underway on a commemorative book to celebrate the AIS's 100th Anniversary, and we could use some help with research. There are, after all, nearly 400 back issues, a bit much for any one person to read and take notes on. If you're an e-member with access to the bulletins or have a run of the bulletins and you would enjoy helping with this fascinating project, please email editor Nancy McDonald to offer your services: editor@historiciris.org.

We need volunteers who would summarize 5 year periods of the AIS bulletins that could aid in the development of the history of AIS. Please contact both Bob Pries robertpries@embarqmail.com and Nancy McDonald so they can coordinate who is doing which group of years. (Posted October 23, 2016)

Strategic Planning

Attention Planners and Visionaries: If you are able to contribute your thoughts and feedback on a regular basis with the AIS Strategic Planning Committee please email Andi Rivarola, the Committee's Chairman: andinsky@gmail.com. Thank you. (Posted November 9, 2016)

HIPS Volunteer Opportunities

The Historic Iris Preservation Society also has a page for their volunteer needs. They also are including the date an opportunity was posted, a great addition.
