'Claremont Indian' (Lee Lenz, R. 1955) Seedling #4-82-1. CA, 8" (20 cm). Early bloom. Light mahogany-red self. Seedling #6130-5 x seedling #6126-2. Lyon 1956. Honorable Mention 1956.
"The first "red" iris I ever saw was Dr. Lee Lenz's Claremont Indian. He produced it in the 50s, in a cross of innominata and probably douglasiana. It was the foundation for the reddish irises that appeared in Southern California, such as ' Pasadena Indian' and ' Native Princess' by George Stambach.
