Mathew in The Iris separates this into the following varieties: Iris juncea. variety mermieri Hort. ex Lynch, a sulfur colored variety once offered by Krelage of Haarlem and Iris juncea. var numidica Hort. with paler flowers of a more lemon shade and variety pallida Barr ex Lynch a large flowered variant in a soft canary yellow. I. juncea variety mermieri Hort. ex Lynch].
