_Iris pandurata_ Maxim.( Karl Johann Maximowicz, 1880, Kansu Province, China); Section Pseudoregelia; height 2-6" (5-15 cm); Flowers reddish purple; beard yellow; Bull. Acad. Sci. St. Petersb. 25: 529; 1880; Dykes on Irises, Tunbridge Wells 141. 1930, from The Gardeners' Chronicle, Oct. 1st. 1910 makes this note; "I. pandurata is only differentiated by Maximowicz from I. tigridia by the fact that its spathes are two flowered, but specimens from the natural habitat show that both one and two-flowered stems are borne by the same individual plants, and it seems probable that it is really only a strong-growing local variety of I. tigridia. The latter has a stem of some four inches in length and purple flowers with a variegated beard."
